A woman had to be rescued through her window after high winds ripped the roof off her home during a storm that drenched the city overnight.

State Emergency Service crews were called to a Mt Pleasant home about 9pm after it received severe roof damage. 7NEWS reports the woman had to be rescued by her son during the wild weather.

Police were also called to a street in Churchlands last night after parts of a large tree snapped off and blocked the road.

The massive tree blocked the corner of Empire Avenue and Tuscany Way at about 8pm, with one resident saying it fell just 20m away from his car.

Roads also slowly flooded with large puddles in the South Perth area as the storm kicked off.

The deluge saw Bickley receive 24.2mm of rain, followed by Jandakot 18mm and Garden Island 13.2mm up to 6.30am. Bunbury also copped a significant soaking, registering 29.2mm, while Busselton airport received 21.2mm.

The cold front bought high winds with Ocean Reef copping the worst of it with 95km/h, with Rottnest Island, 80km/h, Garden Island, 78km/h, and Gooseberry Hill, 76km/h, also blasted.

The cold and blustery conditions are set to continue today, with widespread showers and possible small hail forecast for the south west corner of the State. The showers are not expected to clear until Friday night.

Perth locals will be reaching for their cold weather gear today with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting a chilly 15C.

Gusty winds are expected during mid-morning to the afternoon, peaking at 70km/h, but will ease off later tonight.

The conditions will start to ease come Friday afternoon, just in time for the weekend. But don’t put your umbrellas away just yet as light showers are planned for Saturday and Sunday.

Perth will start to defrost come Saturday, reaching a top of 20C. Sunday will be slightly warmer with a top of 21C.

Murphy’s law will have it that the start of the working week will bring out the sun with a top of 24 on Monday.
