A motorcycle rider has been seriously injured in a crash south of Perth on Friday afternoon.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene on Rockingham Road and Wattleup Road in Wattleup about 4pm.

A WA Police spokesperson said the rider was seriously injured but the driver of the car luckily avoided any serious harm.

Main Roads have advised drivers that Rockingham Road to the south between Dalison Avenue and Wattleup Road was closed.

People were told to avoid the area due to congested traffic banked up to Russell Road.

Major Crash officers were at the scene on Friday night to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

They inspected the heavily damaged motorcycle left on the road and took photos for evidence.

At 6pm, police were still guarding the intersection blocked off with police tape.
