Rockingham shooting: 22-year-old man rushed to hospital after presenting with a gunshot wound

A man is receiving ongoing treatment in hospital after he suffered a gunshot wound to his leg in Perth’s south. The West Australian can reveal the 22-year-old man was driven by a mate to Rockingham General Hospital on Monday morning after sustaining a “serious” gunshot wound to his leg. Medical staff initially treated him there after he arrived just before 11.30am before he was transferred via ambulance to another Perth hospital. He remains there in a stable condition after having surgery. In a statement WA Police confirmed local detectives were investigating how and why the man was shot. “Rockingham detectives are investigating an incident in which a man received a gunshot wound to the lower leg,” the statement said. “Inquiries into the matter are ongoing. There is no ongoing threat to the community.” The Rockingham shooting comes after police charged a man over another shooting in Morley. Detectives launched a probe after it was reported that a firearm had been discharged on Wellington Street, near Walter Road, in Morley about 6.45am on Sunday. Police allege that a shot was fired from a vehicle, with the bullet hitting a stationary car. No one was hurt in the incident. Mirrabooka detectives have since charged a 38-year-old Dianella man with unlawful act or omission with intent to harm (endangering the life, health or safety of a person) and possessing a firearm in circumstances of aggravation. He faced the Perth Magistrates Court on Monday.
