Peak-hour traffic was brought to standstill in Perth’s east when a five-car pile-up caused chaos on Roe Highway on Friday morning.

The crash happened on the southbound lanes of the highway when five cars collided in East Cannington about 5.50am.

No one was hurt in the accident, which happened between Welshpool Road East and Orrong Road.

The right lane southbound was closed to traffic, with motorists warned to delays and “heavy congestion”.

Tow trucks were on site to clear up the wreckage.

Authorities say the highway has been cleared but traffic remains heavy.
