Perth traffic: Multi-car crash on Graham Farmer Freeway causes chaos for Optus Stadium Fremantle game
Football fans were stuck in heavy congestion on Sunday afternoon after a crash just before bouncedown in the Fremantle Dockers and Collingwood Magpies game.
Punters heading to Optus Stadium for the game were stuck in delays after the multi-car crash along Graham Farmer Freeway.
Police said the crash happened about 2.36pm — less than an hour before bouncedown — and involved several cars eastbound on the freeway, near the Victoria Park drive exit.
Paramedics, traffic management and towing services were at the scene clearing the debris, which blocked the left lane.
It remains unclear if anyone has been injured in the crash.
Main Roads WA tweeted traffic was backed up to the tunnel, warning motorists driving in for the Sunday night game to allow for extra travel time. Traffic was still heavy as the game started.
It comes as the Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a severe weather warning for parts of Perth Sunday afternoon.
DFES said a cold front and severe thunderstorms were expected to hit Perth about 2pm, with residents living in Perth, the South West, and the Midwest-Gascoyne should prepare for stormy weather.
