Massive traffic delays are expected in central Perth this afternoon and tonight when thousands of schoolchildren take part in the nation ‘s biggest children’s choir.

More than 8000 students from 165 primary schools will turn out for the One Big Voice shows at RAC Arena on Friday.

The first starts at midday, with doors opening at 11.15am.

The second starts at 6.15pm, with doors opening at 5.30pm.

Main Roads WA has warned of big traffic delays during these times and to avoid the area if possible.

Eastbound from Elder Street through to Telethon Avenue will be reduced to a single lane.

Motorists are urged to be mindful of children crossing the street.

Main Roads has warned drivers to plan ahead.

Motorists have also been warned of road closures across the city and western suburbs during the City to Surf run on Sunday.

More than 20,000 runners will compete in the event, which result in part of St Georges Terrace, William Street, Mill Street, Howard Street and Sherwood Court being shut from 1am until noon.

In City Beach and Floreat, there will be closures on Oceanic Drive between West Coast Highway and Challenger Parade, as well as Fred Burton Way from 4am until 2pm.

Parts of Subiaco will also be closed for part of the morning, including Hay Street between Thomas Street and Roberts and Railway Roads.

In Jolimont, Hay Street will be closed between Roberts and Railway Roads and Underwood Avenue between 8am and noon.
