More than 150 regional tennis players descend on Bunbury for D’Arcy Slater & Women in Tennis Foundation Cup

More than 150 of the best junior tennis players from around WA’s regions have descended on the South West for the D’Arcy Slater and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup. Bunbury Tennis Club played host to the tournament, which opened on Sunday and came to a conclusion with finals on Wednesday morning. South West representative teams were fighting to take the division one trophies off the Lower Great Southern Tennis Association, which claimed both titles in 2024. Tennis West event coordinator Brad Ladyman said the tournament was the “marquee regional junior event of the year”. “Tennis West really appreciate all the hard work of the regional coaching providers, clubs, players and parents that make the event such a memorable experience,” Layman said. The tournament is named in honour of a pair of Tennis West’s long-term charity partners, with the Women in Tennis Foundation backing the event since 2022 and the D’Arcy Slater Foundation supporting it since 2004. The D’Arcy Slater Foundation was formed in memory of the 13-year-old who drowned in the Helena River in 1991, with its support honouring the Goomalling Tennis Club junior’s love of playing in regional tournaments, while the Women in Tennis Foundation supports female players around the State.
