Christmas fun to light up CBD

Although this year’s Christmas in the City event will look a little different, festivities and Christmas spirits will remain at an all time high.

Hosted by the Bunbury City Council, the events will be spread over two weekends to reduce crowds in response to COVID-19 and to continue social distancing.

On Sunday, December 6, CBD streets will be lined with festively decorated floats for the annual Christmas Street Parade.

The parade will complete a longer loop than in the past to allow spectators to spread out more while watching the festive floats pass by.

Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said even though the Christmas parade would be scaled back this year, the event would be full of festive cheer.

“Normally when we have the parade there are thousands of people that line up along Victoria Street to watch the 20 to 40 floats pass by,” Mr Brennan said. “People get really into it and it’s great to see, but unfortunately because of COVID we aren’t able to have the usual events.

“We have also submitted a COVID plan to the health department and we’re just grateful we get to have an event.”

On Sunday, December 13, the festival will continue in various locations throughout the Bunbury CBD with The Apprentice and Traineeship Company Carols Concert being held at the Graham Bricknell Memorial Music Shell in the afternoon.

In addition to these events, the council has introduced a Christmas Trail to the CBD.

The trail will include giant baubles, festive-themed selfie stations, a Christmas inflatable and lighting the Christmas Tree in Bicentennial Square.

Visitors will be able to follow a map to guide them along the trail which also includes Guppy Park.
