The South West Football League is set to receive unprecedented coverage this season, with the South Western Times to broadcast two games live online in Round 2.
The Nani Cup game between Bunbury and Carey Park will kick-off the coverage this Saturday, before the grand final rematch between Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault and the Eaton Boomers the following day with both games starting at 3pm.
Bunbury Herald and South Western Times journalists Justin Fris and Jackson Barrett will lead the coverage of both games.
SWFL general manager Simone Nani said she was excited to offer a broader audience the chance to follow the league.
“We are excited — this is something new for us,” she said.
“I have been chatting with the four presidents who are involved with the games we are doing and they are excited as well.
“We are looking forward to what we can do with it.
It gives people who are from Bunbury, the South West or people who played in the league an opportunity, if they are not in town, to watch some games and follow the league.
Carey Park will host Bunbury at Kelly Park in the first of the broadcast games.
The Panthers finished just one game off a finals position last season, while the Bulldogs finished third before losing to Eaton Boomers and Donnybrook to be knocked out in straight sets.
The Sunday game will be the first time the two grand finalists have met since Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault comfortably dealt with the Boomers at Hands Oval last year, keeping them goalless through the first three quarters to win 9.11 (65) to 4.12 (36).
Lions premiership coach John Baggetta was also looking forward to the extra coverage.
It is just going to be good for footy. It will give more people the chance to have a look and I am sure our guys will chase it up later on.
The revised nine game season began at the weekend, marking the league’s latest ever start to a season.
