The Harvey Bulls Football Club change room project has been completed, giving players access to new and improved facilities at the Harvey Recreation Ground.

The $796,709 project has transformed the old change rooms into a modern, gender-neutral space which includes showers, toilet cubicles, a unisex room for umpires and additional storage space.

Harvey Bulls Football Club president Nola Marino said the project had been years in the making and meant a lot to everyone at the club.

“Our members have long-recognised the need for improved facilities and it’s fantastic to see that vision become a reality,” she said.

“These change rooms provide a better experience for our players and visiting teams, while creating facilities the entire club can be proud of.”

The project was initiated following a needs assessment, endorsed by the Harvey Shire council in December 2020, with the report identifying the existing facilities were below acceptable standards and rated “poor” by the WA Football Commission.

WA Football facilities and government relations manager Steven Rose said football had evolved over the years and it was important community infrastructure changed with it.

“Modern change rooms need to accommodate players, officials and volunteers in a way that is inclusive, safe and accessible,” he said.

“These upgrades provide Harvey with facilities that align with contemporary AFL standards and support the continued growth of the game.

“They will help ensure local football remains strong and sustainable for future generations.”

Harvey shire president Michelle Campbell said the project perfectly balanced the need for the new facility and the commitment to preserving the heritage and character of the Harvey Recreation Ground.

“The Arthur Marshall Stand is an iconic part of Harvey’s sporting heritage, and great care was taken to ensure the new change room complements the existing structure and feels like a natural extension of the stand rather than an addition,” she said.

“The shire is proud to have worked with the Harvey Bulls Football Club and our project partners to deliver a facility that honours the ground’s history while preparing it for the future.”

With works carried out by Civilcon (WA), the project was delivered through a partnership between the Shire of Harvey, the Alcoa Harvey Sustainability Fund, WA Football and the Harvey Bulls Football Club, while also forming part of the State Government’s PlayOn WA initiative.
