Excited to get her hands dirty, fry up fresh produce and figure out flower arranging, gardening icon Sabrina Hahn has highlighted what she is most excited about at this year’s Nannup Flower and Garden Festival.

Celebrating its 25th year, the festival will cover all things gardening, from expert workshops and cooking demonstrations to full weekends of flower-fun and include some of the biggest names in the WA green-thumb world.

Gardening celebrities and high profile florists including Sabrina Hahn, Costa Georgiadis, Lara Rose, Fox and Rabbit as well as Johnny Frog and Guy Jeffreys are set to make an appearance at the 16-day festival.

No stranger to the South West flower festivities, Hahn said most of the guest speakers loved heading to Nannup, praising the “marvellous” hospitality, “amazing” floral displays and local produce.

“I’ve been coming down to the Nannup FIower and Garden Festival for many years now ... it’s such a beautiful community,” she said.

“The diversity of gardens is amazing but it’s the passion that the gardeners have down there, and when they come together to make the festival it has such a big and varied program.”

The expert gardener will host a number of workshops and garden tours and is set to enjoy the company of the Nannup commuity at the Georgiadis and friends Nannup Brewery event on August 13.

Having worked with the likes of festival celebrity guests South West chef Guy Jeffreys, award-winning garden journalist Deryn Thorpe and Costa Georgiadis, Hahn said the workshops would be full of energy.

“Costa and I is usually like a bomb going off, in the one place, I always look forward to doing workshops with Costa and sharing the same space, it’ll be great fun,” she said.

“We get to learn more about Noongar culture and the plants that are significant for First Nations people in that region ... Rod Carey is going to be doing some of the wildflower tours through the forest so there’s something for everyone.”

With a roster of more than 82 events Hahn said she was keen to improve her flower arranging skills from Fox and Rabbit’s demonstration, learn more about wildflowers and attend the festival’s permaculture demo.

“I’m interested in the wildflowers, I think that has been a bit of a passion of mine ... I would hate to miss out on Guy Jeffery’s cooking — because that’s a lot of fun,” she said.

“My very dear friend Johnny Frog will be doing his frog workshop, and I think a lot more people are now getting into creating habitats in their garden and understanding how important our gardens are in providing habitat.”

NFGF will span over a number of weekends throughout the month starting on August 13. More information can be found on the NFGF website.
