Damien Farrell the latest face keeping Busselton safe

A familiar local face has taken on a new role keeping the Busselton community safe.

Damien Farrell, 18, has traded his school uniform for a police badge, suiting up as the newest cadet at the Busselton Police Station.

The former head boy at Busselton Senior High School said he wanted to continue to be a role model within the community.

“The biggest reason why I joined was meant to manage the sense of serving community,” he said.

“. . . just wanting to help serve and protect the community.”

After graduating last year, he spent three weeks training at the Western Australian Police Academy, an experience he said was integral in forming a unique “bond” between officers that is prevalent across the whole force.

“There’s a bond within the station, but it’s also throughout the whole district, and then through the whole force, everyone’s interconnected,” he said.

Busselton police Sen. Sgt James Bradley praised the new addition.

“It’s exciting to have Damien, who is an exceptional young local person join us at Busselton Police Station,” he said.

With only a few months under his belt so far, he confessed his current career highlight has been undertaking the AFL coaching accreditation program with the Fremantle Dockers, as a part of the Aboriginal Police Cadets program.

In the future, Mr Farrell aspires to one day be a detective specialising in either homicide or organised crime.
