Three candidates have nominated to fill the vacant Rockingham/Safety Bay ward position on the City of Rockingham council.

Jason Davies, James Mumme and Elaine Smith have put their hands up for the spot on the table created by the resignation earlier this year of Dr Craig Buchanan.

Dr Buchanan had been a councillor for about six years before resigning in April.

Nominations closed last Tuesday.

Postal voting packages will start to be sent out on August 25.

Eligible electors who do not receive a voting package by September 7 are encouraged to contact the City of Rockingham.

Completed voting packages should be returned promptly to ensure they are received before the close of voting. There is no online voting.

Voting closes at 6pm on Thursday, September 24.

The vote count will start immediately after at the city’s administration building and will continue until 11pm. If required, counting will resume from 9am on September 25.
