Steven Enright avoids jail time over hit-and-run incident

A Rockingham man has found himself in trouble with the law again, this time facing new hit-and-run charges. Steven Enright, 40, faced Rockingham Magistrates Court via video link on Friday, charged with one count of careless driving and failure to stop. Prosecutor Sen. Const. Mick Fallows told the court that on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at about 9.45 am Enright was driving along Gnangara Drive, Waikiki when he crashed into a stationary vehicle at a red light. The collision caused damage to the victim’s bumper and Enright failed to stop, driving away from the incident. The victim was able to take photos of Enright’s number plate, which police traced back to the owner of the vehicle, who was Enright’s father. Officers contacted Enright through his father’s number and advised him to return to the scene, however he ignored this. A warrant was issued and he was arrested on June 10, 2022, where he participated in an electronic interview. When questioned about the incident he said he had “stuffed up and should not have taken those pills”. Enright has not held a valid licence since 2018, due to unpaid fines and has found himself in breach of bail conditions in relation to previous stealing charges. Magistrate Vivien Edwards sentenced Enright to complete an 18-month suspended imprisonment with supervision program and requirements.
