A South Coast Baptist College Year 11 student has been ranked number one in the Oceania region and number 11 globally in the CrossFit Open.
After making it through the CrossFit Open and semi-finals earlier this year, 15-year-old Michael Rabie was scheduled to travel to Brisbane last week to represent the college at the Torian Pro, the official Oceania Semifinal and most prestigious CrossFit event in the Southern Hemisphere.

But an injury he received playing rugby held him back from attending the competition.
Michael said he was now focusing on healing in time to compete at the CrossFit Games in California later this year.
“The biggest goal I have is to take part in the Torian Pro next year in the 16-17 age category; I was unable to compete this year due to my injuries,” he said.
He joined the school’s CrossFit program, the first school-based affiliate in WA, in Year 7.
This was Michael’s first year competing in the CrossFit Open.
“My journey has been a great experience and I have really enjoyed it so far,” he said.
“It is such a cool feeling to be recognised all over the world. I never expected CrossFit to take me so far and I’m excited to see how much further I can go.”

Program director Andy Price said Michael’s achievements on the global stage so far was a “powerful example” of what can happen when a student embraces discipline and character.
“Michael is one of those athletes that make coaching an absolute pleasure,” Price said.
“He has a natural athletic gifting, but he is also prepared to outwork anyone in the gym. He also has the tenacity and competitive spirit that all successful people have.
“He isn’t just training for a competition; he is preparing for a life of purpose and excellence. I predict great things from this young man as he grows.”
