This year is shaping up to be a big one for several City of Rockingham facilities, with four much-loved community assets to celebrate key milestones in 2023. Rockingham Aquatic Centre will kick off celebrations on February 25, marking 50 years since the community venue opened it’s doors in 1973. The day will feature a 70s tribute band, food trucks and movie night. Entry prices will also go back in time with 10 cent entry for children and 20 cents for adults. Later in the year, the Mike Barnett Sports Complex will turn 40, the Autumn Centre will celebrate 30 years and Aqua Jetty in Warnbro will mark its 20th anniversary. The Baldivis Sports Complex will also hold its official opening in 2023. Mayor Deb Hamblin said the arrival of each of the facilities were “significant moments” for the City and have stood the test of time. “The city’s Community Infrastructure Plan has played a key role in delivering and redeveloping facilities as our city evolves,” she said. “Whether it’s the social connections, sporting opportunities or health benefits, Rockingham Aquatic Centre, MBSC, the Autumn Centre and Aqua Jetty all hold a special place in the hearts and minds of their members and users. “Throughout 2023, the city looks forward to celebrating these anniversaries, starting with the Aquatic Centre on February 25.” For more information on the venues, visit rockingham.wa.gov.au.
