Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club announces exciting new cafe for Secret Harbour

Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club has announced it will welcome a new cafe operator to the clubhouse this summer following a long vacancy. It was revealed at the club’s annual meeting that a suitable vendor had been found to occupy the space after the ground floor area had remained vacant for more than five years. Well known for the Surfing Lizard cafe at Coogee Surf Life Saving Club, Tam and Ngan Tran recently signed a five-year lease for the Secret Harbour space and the duo hope to transform it into a new casual dining feature of the community. The space had originally been designed to capture the traffic of public beachgoers and club members when the new clubhouse was built but suffered several setbacks after multiple vendors pulled out of the opportunity. The new cafe will be called the Surfing Mermaid, a sister cafe to Surfing Lizard, and will serve Asian style and contemporary meals and snacks for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Mr Tran said he chose Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club for its “excellent location”. “It is so close to a great surfing beach with plenty of parking and a growing residential area,” he said. “Now that we have signed the contract, we can start the planning permit process and then start fitting it out. “I hope to have it ready for opening sometime during this summer season.” Club president Rick Lowe said it “means so much” to have an operational cafe in the long-dormant space. “The cafe will be well visited by Nipper families looking for a bite to eat after a Nippers Sunday session, but also by surf lovers who have been deprived for some time of a place to grab a coffee and a snack after a visit to our beach,” Mr Lowe said. The Trans already have contractors lined up to start fitting out the space, with work to take place over the next six months to finish in time for the peak of summer.
