A proposal for a huge retail centre in Casuarina is set to front State planners. Plans for the $15 million Samara Casuarina development on Thomas Road, north of Costco, will be put to the Metro Outer Joint Development Assessment Panel later this month. A report by the City of Kwinana recommends the council support the development, with councillors to vote on the recommendation at Wednesday night’s meeting. It is the second stage of developer Aigle Royal Group’s transformation of the 60ha site, which already includes Costco and its surrounding carpark, and will ultimately comprise the Samara City shopping precinct, plus housing. The application is for eight retail “showroom” tenancies, two cafe tenancies and a 671-bay parking area across the 25,000sqm site. The City’s report said the proposal would “continue the development of this up-and-coming service commercial precinct, providing an appropriately designed gateway”. “This development will further activate this emerging urban area and provide multiple benefits for both the local and wider community”. Aigle Royal Group chief executive Brad Brashaw previously told Sound Telegraph the development would become a key shopping and lifestyle destination in Perth’s south and help transform and grow the Kwinana area. “The development of a precinct the size of Samara requires a truly collaborative approach with our multi-disciplinary team, the City of Kwinana, Main Roads and Costco,” Mr Brashaw said.
