Safety Bay Senior High School student chosen for 2022 Premier’s Anzac Tour
A local student has been selected as one of 10 ambassadors chosen for the 2022 Premier’s Anzac Tour.
Safety Bay Senior High School student Ewan Smith has been selected for the tour, which will travel to Albany and Darwin from April 16 to 26 next year.
Ewan is one of only 10 student ambassadors chosen from schools across the State to attend the 19th Premier’s Anzac Tour, which will explore the Anzac legend and the defence of Australia during World War II.
“It’s pretty special to me to be chosen to go on the tour and learn more about the sacrifices Anzacs made for Australia,” Ewan said.
“When I heard the news, I had a big smile on my face and straight away it came to mind that I was going to tell my Mum as she was excited about the prospect of me getting to go on the tour.
“Getting to go to Albany and Darwin is also pretty cool as both places are pretty significant to the Anzacs.”
Fellow Year 10 student Cordelia Gouldthorp also made it through to the final round during the selection process for the Premier’s ANZAC Tour.
Safety Bay Senior High School Head of Humanities and Social Sciences Learning Area, Kirstie Young-Evans, said learning about Australia’s wartime involvement is a vital part of the curriculum.
“As a school we are all incredibly proud of Ewan on being selected as one of the Student Ambassadors and to Cordelia who made it through to the final round of the selection process.
“We wish Ewan a fantastic time on the tour next year and look forward to hearing all about his experience diving deep into the Anzac legend,” Mrs Young-Evans said.
