Rockingham RSL invites all to attend this year’s Anzac Day service

Rockingham RSL is inviting all residents to attend its annual Anzac Day services set to be held on April 25. The dawn service will start at 5.30am at the Village Green on Flinders Lane in Rockingham. A gunfire breakfast will be hosted at the PCYC in Rockingham with attendees encouraged to bring a gold coin donation. The main service and march will take place about 10.20am on Rockingham Beach Road. The RSL will also be able to open for lunch this year without COVID restrictions in place. Rockingham RSL club president Ian Brook said this year’s service would mark 50 years since the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War. “In addition to the anniversaries of our past wars, we will be celebrating all the animals that served along side our solders,” Mr Brook said. “Anzac Day means a lot to us because its about the people who have passed away and who have fought for this country. “We do have to remember that we have had more than just World War I and World War II . . . the next biggest war was Vietnam. Mr Brook said that all members of the community were welcomed to attend the services and remember “our fallen soldiers”. Currently, Rockingham is home to more than 8000 defence personnel and veterans. This has been recognised by the State Government with plans to see a brand new $5 million hub built in the area. The Veterans’ and Families’ Hub will be one of 10 new hubs across the nation which will provide tailored services, including supports for the transition in to civilian life, advocacy and mental health services and a range of community activities, including volunteer and sporting opportunities.
