Rockingham man Marshall William Patrick Kake convicted for stealing $6000 worth of cologne, toys and scooter

A Rockingham man has been handed a nine-month community-based order and told to pay back the value of a series of items he stole from September 2021 to January 2022. Marshall William Patrick Kake was charged with two counts of stealing and one count of breaching a police order when he appeared in Rockingham Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Kake stole an $800 electric scooter with the lock attached after removing it from a bench outside a Waikiki shopping centre on January 9. In the lead up to Christmas on December 9, Kake stole $309 worth of children’s toys from an Australia Post store, which police prosecutor Naomi Foster told the court included laser guns and Barbie dolls. Kake told the court he believed the police were coming to collect the scooter and the toys from his home. “I still have them at home and the police said they were going to come and pick them up,” he said. Sgt Foster told the court that on September 6 the Rockingham man stole more than 50 bottles of cologne after breaking open a glass cabinet at a shop, with the total value of the stolen goods being about $4800. On the same date, Kake was given a police order not to associate with his partner Akita Grant but the court was told he later broke the order when he and Ms Grant went to the Rockingham police station together. Magistrate Vivien Edwards placed Kake on a nine-month community-based order and ordered him to pay $800 to the owner of the scooter and $154.50 — or half of the price — to Australia Post for the toys.
