Rockingham Flames women remain unbeatable for the third week in a row

The Rockingham Flames women’s team have strung together three wins in a row after starting the season with three losses, defeating both the Goldfields Giants and Lakeside Lightning in the past week.

In the first quarter of Wednesday night’s round four game with Lakeside, Flames got the upper hand early, leading 28-17.

Despite their best efforts, Lakeside was no match for the Flames who extended the lead all game to defeat Lightning 94-58.

Goldfields then arrived at Mike Barnett Sports Complex on Saturday ready to battle it out for the round five clash.

In the first 17 minutes, Giants Olivia Berry scored 15 points, three rebounds and three assists before an injury took her out for the remainder of the game.

Then, when Rachel Kehoe fouled out, the Giants did all they could to hold on but it wasn’t enough to catchthe Flames, who notched a six-point victory, 74-68.

Flames’ Tayah Burrows produced 21 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and two steals for with Opal Mader adding 16 points and four boards, Casey Samuels 11 points and four assists, and Marissa Pangalos 10 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Young gun Kiriana Hawaikirangi put up 19 points, three rebounds and two steals for the Giants while hitting 5/11 from three-point land with Regan Turnour-McCarty adding 10 points, seven boards and four assists, and Kehoe four points, 12 rebounds and two assists before fouling out.

Rockingham Flames will take on Mandurah Magic on Friday at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.
