Rockingham Flames finish season with 19-point victory over Lakeside Lightning
Rockingham Flames have sent a strong message ahead of their elimination final with a 19-point victory over their opponents next weekend, Lakeside Lightning, at Lakeside Recreation Centre on Friday.
After losing their mojo with seven straight losses, the Flames women will now enter the finals on a two-game winning streak and sitting seventh on the NBL1 West ladder.
Rockingham made it clear early in the first quarter they were not willing to bow down, putting up 25 points to Lakeside’s 20 to lead by five at quartertime.
The Flames continued to push ahead in the second quarter, scoring another 25 points while Lightning added 22 to see the scores 42-50 at halftime.
Lakeside tried to put their best foot forward in the third quarter but the Flames continued to outscore them, putting up 22 points to Lightning’s 19 and extending their lead to 11 points heading into the final term.
Rockingham refused to take their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter with another 25 points while Lakeside had all but conceded the game, putting up 17 points for a final score of 78-97.
Mehryn Kraker was fantastic for the Flames with 33 points and eight assists, with Patty Brossmann putting up 24 points and five rebounds, while Ruth Hamblin scored 20 points and 11 rebounds for Lakeside despite the loss.
Rockingham Flames will clash with Lakeside Lightning once again in the elimination final at Lakeside Recreation Centre on August 20.
