Kwinana residents are being urged to nominate an unsung hero in their community.

The City of Kwinana is seeking nominations for the Kwinana Community Awards.

The awards recognise outstanding groups and individuals, with four up for grabs, including Kwinana person of the year, senior, Aboriginal person and group of the year.

Mayor Peter Feasey said it was important to celebrate those who made an impact on their community.

“Kwinana Community Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding individuals and groups who have made significant contributions and demonstrated commitment, leadership or dedication to the community,” he said.

“The awards are open to anyone in the Kwinana community and prizes include a certificate, trophy, $250 gift voucher and name on the perpetual honour boards in the library.”

Mr Feasey said the city would also provide a $600 grant for the winner’s chosen club or organisation for “a capacity-building project or small equipment purchases”.

A $1000 contribution will also be given to an award ceremony or celebration to be arranged with the city for each winner.

Self-nominations or nominations by a family member will not be considered.

Nominations must be submitted by 5pm on January 31 and will be announced in March.
