Residents’ family favourite recipes featured in 2022 cookbook

Locals have teamed up with others from across the country to create a Family Favourites Cookbook. The cookbook, to commemorate Mother’s Day 2022, shares recipes from Serenitas lifestyle communities across the country, featuring a range of favourite recipes as a gift to their families and others. The Family Favourites Cookbook was inspired by the meaningful moments and family traditions that have come from sharing meals with loved ones over the years. The cookbook contains 18 recipes from both homeowners and Serenitas staff across the nation. Locals Roslyn McAullay, from Tuart Lakes, and Kathleen Seel, from Vibe Baldivis, were able to have their recipes features in the special Mother’s Day cookbook this year. Ms McAullay’s rhubarb and strawberry slice is a speciality of hers and something she often enjoys making for her two daughters, who live nearby. “I have made fruit cakes for my friends as well as scones and cupcakes for the community family days,” she said. “My two daughters also live nearby so being able to make some delicious desserts for afternoon tea and catch up with family and friends is a huge part of my life.” Ms Seel’s no-fail fruit cake, passed down to her by an old friend, brings back many memories and is something she loves to make on any occasion. “Aunty Edna was a very outgoing lady and beautiful artist, who I made friends with during religious studies hosted by our church,” she said. “Edna had an amazing fruit cake she would always bring that I now call the no-fail fruit cake because of how easy it is to make. “Whenever I make it now, it’s lovely to be reminded of Edna and her incredible energy.”
