The Rockingham Flames’ new general manager is hoping to help the club bounce back from last season’s heartbreak as the men’s program continues to hunt its maiden flag.

The Flames ended their 2021 NBL1 West campaign as runners-up, going down to the Perry Lakes Hawks by 10 points at Bendat Basketball Centre in their first championship game appearance.

However, new GM Samantha Devine believes everything is in place for the club to make another finals run and this time claim the ultimate prize.

“It is an exciting time to join the team,” she said.

“This year I think for the men’s and women’s teams will be really exciting.

“We’ve got some great local talent and exciting imports, so get around the Flames.”

Devine has worked in the sporting industry for 10 years, including time as a game development manager at the WACA and most recently in a management position with the national hockey sides at the Tokyo Olympics.

“I’m really passionate about sport not only in my work life but also in my personal life,” she said.

“I see how important sport is to the community and I’m blessed I can work in sport every day and give opportunities to people to participate in sports.”

Over the past few years, the Flames have been expanding their fan base by creating a family-friendly club, which Devine is eager to continue.

“The Flames just have such a good reputation in the community,” she said.

“They have really good volunteers and are a family club, and I was drawn to work with them because of the community they have created.

“I’m really excited to be a part of the journey and hope to drive the culture in the community.

“So I’m looking to be here for a while and help the club grow from strength to strength.”

Rockingham’s season will tip-off with a grudge match with local rivals the Mandurah Magic on Saturday, April 9.

“It’s terrific to see people in the regions back their clubs and we’re looking forward to Round 1 opening the season against Mandurah,” Devine said.
