The cafe that’s made a new home at the Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club has been warmly welcomed to the area, with more than 650 customers passing through on its first day. The highly anticipated cafe finally opened following a long vacancy at the clubhouse, after Surfing Lizard Coogee owners Tam and wife Ngan Tran set their sights on expanding their business with a second location. Surfing Lizard Secret Harbour had a big opening day of trade late last month and thousands have passed through since. Mr Tran said there’s been an amazing influx of support from the local community. “We’ve had about 3000 customers visit us since our opening, the turnout has been incredible,” he said. “There are a few things we still need to work on, being that we are a new cafe but I am confident with our experience and strong foundation things will only get better from here.” The new cafe hotspot features a wide range of menu favourites from Asian cuisine to contemporary meals and snacks for breakfast, brunch and lunch service. The second location came about after a regular customer at the Trans’ Coogee cafe, who lives in Secret Harbour, told Mr Tran a beautiful new location had become available last year. After viewing the “amazing spot”, Mr Tran said it was impossible for the couple to turn down and they secured a 10-year lease with the SLSC. It was originally set to open in March but was delayed due to a shortage of materials and tradies at the time. Mr Tran said despite the unexpected delays, he is happy to have the cafe officially up and running. Surfing Lizard Secret Harbour has also introduced a new iPad ordering system to help alleviate long queues during the summer period. “We’ve been running Surfing Lizard Coogee for the last eight years and during the summer customers can wait up to 45 minutes to place an order, which is why I created the iPad ordering system for our new location,” Mr Tran said. “Customers will still be able to order at the front counter if they prefer.” For more information head to the Surfing Lizard Cafe Facebook page.
