A Safety Bay school that caters to children with disabilities is a finalist in the WA Education Awards.

Malibu School is one of 20 finalists in the annual awards, which recognise excellence in leadership, teaching, cultural responsiveness and disability inclusion.

It is one of four primary schools vying for the excellence in disability and inclusion award.

The specialist school caters for students from kindergarten to Year 12 who have an intellectual disability, physical disability, sensory impairment and/or autistic spectrum disorder.

Education Minister Tony Buti congratulated staff on their dedication and commitment to education excellence.

“These staff members are fantastic examples of committed education professionals who make a difference to the lives of young people and help students achieve their potential,” he said.

“The nominations received this year were of a very high calibre, which demonstrates the quality education that West Australian students receive.”

Winners will be announced in December and will receive $20,000 to go towards a project or program of the school’s choosing.
