The Year 12 leadership team from Kolbe Catholic College came together to raise more than $35,000 for Cancer Council Australia.

Last week, more than 30 students participated in the World’s Greatest Shave and the Big Chop, with the entire college community gathering to support their classmates.

Year 12 student and team captain Annabella Jaramillo said student and community support was the students’ motivation to reach their enormous fundraising target.

“The most Kolbe ever had was $20,000, so we decided to reach for $25,000,” she said.

“As of right now we have $35,900 — it’s amazing.”

School principal Neil Alweyn said watching the students get involved and supporting one another was “truly inspiring”.

“We’ve got a staff member going through cancer at the moment and I know there are some families going through it as well, so I think it’s a very special cause for our kids to get behind,” Mr Alweyn said.

“Looking at young Eva, our Year 12 girl with tears falling from her eyes as she’s about to commit to shaving her hair off, it shows how much this all means to our kids.

“So watching her have the clippers go through her hair, with tears but still smiling, I mean you’re not human if you don’t feel that in your heart.”

Kolbe Catholic College is seventh in WA for all fundraising organisations.
