Kaci Manahi Fynn charged over violent trespassing incident at Warnbro Community High School

A former student who marched into his old high school, kicked in a glass door and assaulted the principal has been spared a jail sentence despite facing a string of charges. Kaci Manahi Fynn, 19, was on the hunt for a 17-year-old student he believed had bullied his 13-year-old sister when he turned up at Warnbro Community High School on March 11, Rockingham Magistrates Court heard. Prosecutor Sen. Sgt Mick Fallows told the court Fynn — who had received a text message from his sister at the school — was confronted by the principal who warned him he was not permitted to be on school grounds and blocked him from entering a door. Fynn scuffled with the principal and kicked the door, shattering its glass. He pressed his head into the teacher’s forehead and grabbed his arm, resulting in a graze, before smashing the man’s glasses under foot and fleeing, the court heard. Police officers arrested him at his home two days after the attack where they also found a prohibited gel blaster which he admitted he owned. It was his second arrest in two months, having been charged on January 8 for carrying a knife in a public place after police stopped and searched him in Northbridge. Fynn pleaded guilty to two counts of assault on a public officer, one count being armed in a public place, breach of bail, two counts of criminal damage, possession of a prohibited weapon and trespassing. Handing him a 15-month intensive supervision order on Friday, Magistrate Joe Randazzo told the defendant it was fortunate the principal was not seriously hurt as a result of his actions. “(The victim) suffered a graze, it is lucky he did not receive any other injuries,” he said. “You were the aggressor. Whether you stomped on his glasses or stood on them ... it’s unacceptable behaviour. “You’ve come very close to going to jail, I hope that some of these words sink in.” The attack at Warnbro High is the latest in a disturbing trend of school attacks. Last year a teacher at Willetton was stabbed by a student and two tradies were assaulted by a mob of students at Rockingham’s SMYL Community College.
