A four-way roundabout is being planned to deal with increasing traffic in a southern suburb.
The developers of Parkland Heights Estate in Baldivis want to extend Nairn Drive to intersect with Eighty Road and Sixty Eight Road, and build the roundabout at the new intersection.
It will be at the south-western corner of the estate.
The City of Rockingham has agreed to transfer about 1140sqm of a property it owns near the site to be used for the roundabout.
A council report said it was a relatively small amount of land and was needed for the roundabout.
City officers expected it would be built within 12-18 months once approval for the subdivision was granted.
Cr Ryan Robertson said at the June 15 planning and asset services committee meeting he was pleased to see some movement.
“This junction’s been problematic for quite some time,” he said.
“It will involve us ceding about 1000sqm of land that we own for nothing, but I think that’s in the public benefit given the fatalities that we’ve had at that junction in the past.”
A Main Roads spokesperson said there were five crashes at the intersection of Sixty Eight and Eighty Road between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2025, which resulted in only property damage.
