Community fundraises more than $25,000 for family of Josh Vradis, killed in Port Kennedy crash

More than $25,000 has been raised to support the family of an 18-year-old who was killed when his car crashed into a tree in Port Kennedy last week. Josh Vradis had been driving a Holden Commodore on Warnbro Sound Avenue near Halliburton and Chelmsford avenues on Tuesday night when a rear tyre is believed to have burst. It is believed Josh then lost control of the car, crashing the vehicle into a tree, and was removed from the car by witnesses before it caught fire. The teen was taken to Rockingham Hospital where he later died. On Wednesday, Baldivis resident Amorie Van Den Heuvel started a GoFundMe page aiming to raise $15,000 for Josh’s family. By early this week more than $26,000 had already been raised by more than 300 donors. Ms Van Den Heuvel wrote the money would go to Josh’s parents to support them in the aftermath of their son’s death and “to give Josh the send-off he deserves”. “We would like to help relieve some of the financial burden that they might be faced with in the weeks to come and allow the family time together to grieve the emptiness that they will be feeling,” she wrote.
