Comet Bay College girls football team crowned winners

Comet Bay College’s Year 8/9 Girls AFL team have won their first ever Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup, completing a school double.
The Cup was established to cater for a growing number of female students wanting access to elite football coaching and training.
The college’s inaugural girls team competed in the top division of the WAFC’s competition, which is open to all public and private schools across the State.
Comet Bay College defeated Mater Dei College 20-13 in the grand final at Cockburn ARC last Tuesday.
It was no easy win for the team going into half-time break two goals down, however Comet Bay College came back in the second half to kick a goal in the opening minutes and from there they continued to pressure the goal until another was scored to give them a one-point lead.

With just minutes to go Comet Bay’s third goal would see the team secure the win over Mater Dei and end an impressive season.
Alira Cooper was awarded best on ground, winning the match ball after an impressive game in the ruck and kicking all three goals.
Coach Matthew Piggott said the college was extremely proud of the way the girls conducted themselves throughout the competition.
“The girls demonstrated great sportsmanship and humility in all of their games,” he said.
“It is a credit to the students and all who teach them.
“To win such a prestigious competition in our inaugural year is a sign of big things to come for this program and our students.”
Last month, Comet Bay College’s Year 8/9 Boys AFL team claimed their fourth Eagles Cup win.
