Two Rockingham roads may be renamed in an effort to avoid confusion for posties, customers and emergency services responders. Rockingham council voted at its October 17 meeting to seek public feedback for renaming portions of Dixon Road and Goddard Street to Louise Street. A report by city staff said the owner of a business on the southern section of Goddard Street raised concerns about customers and delivery services not being able to locate their premises. Goddard Street is not continuous and is separated into two sections by Louise Street and a small portion of Simpson Avenue. The report said renaming the northern sections of Goddard Street and Dixon Road to Louise Street would require two properties to change their address: the Public Transport Authority’s Rockingham bus depot and a vacant site. It said the proposal was compliant with Landgate policy and would assist with the “wayfinding of properties on the southern portion of Goddard Street for customers, residents, visitors, delivery services and emergency services”. The change will be advertised for public comment then return to council for a decision and if approved, would result in a continuous length of Louise Street between Simpson Avenue and Patterson Road.
