City of Rockingham goes to town over makeover

A Town Team is being created in the City of Rockingham to help transform the community in more ways than one. About 30 Rockingham locals attended the launch of the Rockingham team last Thursday hosted by the non-profit Town Teams movement. Town Teams aim to create more vibrant spaces that support social wellbeing and enhance livability through hands-on activities, improved facilities and community events. Earlier this year Kwinana’s Town Team contributed to the city’s 7 Day Makeover, which revamped the main street with new play equipment, a garden and even a street piano. There are 123 Town Teams in the UK, New Zealand and across Australia. Town Team leader Claire Cardew said Town Teams could include business owners, landowners or locals passionate about improving a particular place. “Town Teams are positive and proactive community groups that work with local government,” she said.
