City of Rockingham councillors elect Lorna Buchan as deputy mayor

The City of Rockingham has a new deputy mayor, with councillor Lorna Buchan elected to the role for her first term. Cr Buchan, a Comet Bay ward councillor, was elected by her fellow council members at a special council meeting last Tuesday to serve in the role until October 2025. Cr Buchan, who is a forensic auditor at the Office of the Auditor General for WA, has been on the council since 2019 and was recently re-elected for a second term. She replaces previous deputy Hayley Edwards, who did not re-contest her councillor position at last month’s local government election. Cr Buchan said she was looking forward to supporting mayor Deb Hamblin and the council through her new position. “Becoming deputy mayor is an honour and I was delighted to be elected,” she said. “It’s a position where you can feel the expectation from the team and the wider community, and I’m focused on bringing my qualities as a leader to the forefront so we can create a positive impact.”
