City of Rockingham completes seabed dredging at Point Peron Boat Harbour

Rockingham boaties will be able to continue safely navigating the waterways after dredging maintenance at Point Peron was recently completed. Over the past four months, the City of Rockingham undertook the dredging works at Point Peron Boat Harbour. Works began in deeper waters at the boat harbour entrance, on the northern side of the limestone breakwater, before moving southward towards the boat ramps. The City dredged sand from the boat harbour seabed, ramp and jetty footprints, including stakeholder pontoon berth. It also undertook earthworks associated with the site’s management and sand stockpiling activities. Regular seabed dredging at Rockingham’s boating facilities allows the city to ensure channels remain navigable for the growing community of keen boaties. Mayor Deb Hamblin said the works were required under the City’s coastal facilities strategy. “Point Peron Boat Launching Facility is the most popular boating facility in the city and is enjoyed by locals and visitors from across WA year-round,” Ms Hamblin said. “The dredging was required as part of the regular maintenance to provide a safe and efficient boating experience for the community. The maintenance is among recent improvements to the facility in the past three years, including two new boat ramps — making the total six, two new reversing bays, an expanded carpark and upgrades to the nearby Point Peron Spur Groyne.
