City of Kwinana staff win WA level of Local Government Professionals’ Australasian Management Challenge

City of Kwinana staff have come out on top in a State competition against other local government teams for the second consecutive year. The team, known as Kwinana Splits, won the State level of the Local Government Professionals’ Australasian Management Challenge. The challenge is a simulation-based team-building, learning and networking program using real local government themes — the types of issues that a senior management team in a council would most likely face. Teams responded to a series of tasks in a unique, one-day, “pressure cooker” environment. Kwinana chief executive Wayne Jack said the Kwinana Splits had done the city proud. “This is believed to be the first time that any local government has won WA’s title back-to-back,” he said. “Kwinana also won the challenge in 2009 and secured second place in the national final that year. “This is a true testament to the city, the quality of our staff and the culture intentionally fostered here in Kwinana.” The City of Gosnells was runner-up in the competition, which comprised local governments including Bayswater, Joondalup, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Mandurah, Subiaco, Port Hedland and Victoria Park. Kwinana will compete for the top title across Australia and New Zealand in Brisbane on August 5.
