Baldivis Indoor Sport Complex making a difference in locals’ health and wellbeing

It’s one of the newest leisure facilities in Perth’s southern suburbs , but the Baldivis Indoor Sports Complex is already making a big impact on the local community. Locals say BISC is making a physical and mental health difference in people’s lives after opening only three months ago as part of the City of Rockingham’s wider Baldivis Sports Complex project. Daniel Garnham said just five weeks of Men Rockin Goals Together, an indoor soccer-based health program focused on weight loss, nutrition and peer support, has made a difference in his mental health. “I’ve been playing for five weeks now and have met lots of like-minded lads who head down each week for a run around,” he said. “I look forward to the game each week and the exercise and competitive energy has been great for my mental health.” Fellow participant Joe Psaila “couldn’t recommend it enough” while Trevor Fettis said the BISC was a great facility to play sport in a relaxed environment. Also on offer are weekly lifestyle sessions including functional movement, yoga, tai chi and Zumba classes as well as Mums and Tots interactive yoga play sessions. Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin said BISC was hitting the mark with opportunities for people of all ages and from all walks of life. “In building the BISC the City has strived to create a facility that can provide a wealth of physical and social opportunities for generations to come,” she said. “The City is always looking at ways to enhance what’s on offer at the BISC, we are currently seeking expressions of interest for a new walking netball program which will start in mid-July and run for 10 weeks. “Boxing and Pilates classes, as well as regular mothers’ group sessions are also on the horizon.”
