The Alcoa Children’s Festival returns to Calista Oval this weekend, promising free entertainment for local families with children 12 and under.

Running from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday March 28, the event will offer food trucks, market stalls and entertainment including thrilling rides and hands-on learning experiences.

With about 20,000 people expected to attend, mayor Peter Feasey said children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Mr Feasey encouraged local families to explore the festival’s educational stalls and hands-on activities for little ones, and bring pocket money to support local young creators at the Youth Market Stalls.

“We are so grateful to sponsors Alcoa and Lotterywest for making this highlight of the year possible,” he said.

“If you live locally, why not ride your bike to the event? We will have extra bike racks available and a bike mechanic who can undertake a basic maintenance check while you are at the event.”

Those who cycle to the event will go into a draw to win a $200 bike shop voucher, encouraging locals to help reduce congestion and cut emissions.

This year, the festival has moved from a morning time slot to the afternoon to help avoid the hottest part of the day and create a more comfortable experience for families.
