A local dance school has dominated at the Express Dance Challenge in Bunbury taking out a number of awards including the studio trophy award.

Acrodanz in Port Kennedy attended the two-day competition on July 10 and 11 with both troupes and solo students winning multiple first place awards.

Studio principal Kaitlyn Moody said the students competed in all dance categories including jazz, tap, ballet, acro, classical, lyrical, contemporary and hip-hop.

“We would have won over 100 awards, including title awards like highest scoring solo, champion dancer, judges’ choice awards and then the big studio award, so we ranked highest out of all the schools competing which was amazing,” Ms Moody said. “The kids were honestly so good, I was so proud of them.”

This was the first win for the new studio principal who took over the school from her 73-year-old grandmother a few weeks before the competition.

“It was such a great first win, one I’ll definitely remember,” Ms Moody said.
