Theatre to inspire kids
Children in Kwinana will soon experience inspirational performances thanks to a new sponsorship agreement.
Healthway recently announced $75,000 for Yirra Yaakin Aboriginal Corporation to support its community engagement program, which promotes respect.
Yirra Yaakin will use theatre performances to encourage Aboriginal children in Kwinana to stay mentally and physically healthy through learning from elders, being proud of their culture and keeping traditional language alive while connecting with country.
City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said she was sure the news would be well received. “Aboriginal music and arts are very popular in our city, and Yirra Yaakin encourage young people to learn about and engage with Aboriginal culture, which is fantastic to see,” she said.
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said the project would use the arts to encourage and inspire young people to develop their own talents.
“These sponsorships will really inspire the young people involved to develop their creative talent and encourage them to incorporate healthy lifestyle decisions into their everyday lives,” he said.
“Through programs like these, WA can look forward ... to seeing many healthy, creative young artists showcasing their talents.”
