Rockingham Christmas Lights Festival heralds start of festive season
Christmas officially comes to Rockingham on Saturday, with the City of Rockingham hosting the 2018 Christmas Lights Festival at Flinders Lane.
The festival is part of the City’s Summer Series of free, family-friendly, smoke-free and alcohol-free events and residents are invited to celebrate 5pm-9pm, with the City’s Christmas lights to be switched on at 8pm.
The event will also feature the City’s first Christmas Street Parade, free children’s activities, fun roaming entertainment, food vendors and community stalls selling handmade items.
The Christmas Street Parade will begin at 5.30pm at the Village Green and will include a visit from Santa in his sleigh.
Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged residents to get into the spirit of the season and join in the festive cheer.
“The Rockingham Christmas Lights Festival is a great way to herald in the festive season and it is always a real thrill to turn on the Christmas lights,” Mr Sammels said.
“There will be range of food, entertainment and activities available and, if you are lucky, you might even be able to catch a glimpse of Santa in his sleigh during the first ever Christmas Street Parade beginning at the Village Green and winding down Flinders Lane to the carpark.”
Mr Sammels also encouraged visitors to get in early and visit food and beverage businesses on the foreshore with the Rockingham Beach Foreshore Revitalisation project now in its summer shutdown phase.
