Posik scoops prestigious art award
Kolbe Catholic College student Jacinta Posik has taken out the Kwinana Industries Council (KIC) President’s Award at the annual KIC Youth Art Awards.
Jacinta’s stunning ‘Fleeing Bangladesh’ artwork secured her success, with Tranby College’s Ashleigh Kennis runner-up for her ‘Stressed’ piece.
Over 100 pieces of artwork from students at 12 schools in the Kwinana, Rockingham and Cockburn areas was on display at the Gary Holland Centre for the awards.
KIC vice president Albert Romano made the call to crown Jacinta’s piece the winner and said the the choice was made not so much on technical or artistic merit, but on what he would be happy to have on display in his home.
Students were presented with four categories to enter artwork into including visual art, digitala media, woodwork and metalwork and fabric, fashion and accessories.
KIC director Chris Oughton said the awards showcased the outstanding talent the region had to offer.
“The Art Awards continue to provide the opportunity for local students to share their talents with the wider community and should be congratulated on the quality of their outstanding work.,” Mr Oughton said.
“The artworks that have been entered into this year’s art awards is phenomenal, and every year the talent we see just continues to get better.”
Displays at the Gary Holland Centre went on display on Wednesday and were set to run until March 22.
