Industry potential is unlocked

Holly ThompsonSound Telegraph

A new road in Rockingham’s Industry Zone could create hundreds of new jobs for the local community, on the tail of multiple job losses in the region as a result of COVID-19.

The new road, Alloy Avenue, leads to 73.5ha of new land which, through development, could create up to 165 construction jobs and 310 operation jobs.

The land will provide new opportunities for businesses and deliver an expected economic output of $114 million each year.

Alloy Avenue includes a new four-way signalled intersection to make it safer and quicker for heavy vehicles to move in the estate.

In the nearby Clipper Precinct, nine fully serviced general industrial lots have already been released for pre-sale.

Lands Minister Ben Wyatt said this land and new road would help the area prepare for the future.

“Opening up opportunities for businesses to establish or expand their operations in areas with strong transport and industry links, such as the Rockingham Industry Zone, is ensuring these operators can continue to plan for the future,” he said.

“As we look to tackle the economic impacts presented by the global COVID-19 pandemic, enabling businesses to make those plans with confidence is crucial.

“The release today of lots at the Clipper Precinct, and the opening of Alloy Avenue, will provide additional choice for industry in Perth's southern corridor and generate hundreds of immediate and ongoing jobs for Western Australians.”

WA Premier and Rockingham MLA Mark McGowan, pictured left, said Rockingham and Kwinana played a vital role in supporting WA's economy. “The new Alloy Avenue provides quicker, safer movement for heavy vehicle operators within the estate and unlocks 73.5ha of prime industrial land that will provide a pipeline of opportunity for industry in the years to come,” he said.

The lots, ranging in size from 4399sqm up to 2.6ha, will be connected to power, water and sewerage.

The new land release will see the creation of 165 new jobs through the land development and construction phase.
