Campaign helps needy
Share the Dignity is hosting its annual It’s In The Bag campaign — across Bunnings stores including Rockingham and Port Kennedy — aimed at providing essential items to women in need.
Those who would like to contribute to the campaign can fill a second-hand handbag with items such as a sealed packet of pads and tampons, roll-on deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner and soap.
People can also place lip balm, new socks, a magazine or other extra items in the bag alongside a note, and then drop the bags off at their Bunnings store.
The handbags will then be distributed to women and girls going through homelessness, experiencing poverty or living in a women’s shelter after experiencing domestic violence.
Local Share the Dignity volunteer Katrina Muirhead said providing essential items to those in need was important, especially after COVID-19 impacted people’s ability to work.
“I’ve seen firsthand just how much happiness these handbags filled with items have brought local women and girls,” she said.
“They simply can’t contain the joy they feel and we’ve all been moved to tears watching them receive the bags.
“And little extra treats like socks and magazines have brought out so many smiles.”
The campaign will run from November 20 to November 29 and bags can be dropped off at Bunnings stores during this time.
