Rockingham businesspeople visited Garden Island last week in a bid to strengthen ties between the navy and the community.

The RBS Business Breakfast Club has more than 50 members and meets fortnightly in an attempt to generate referral business locally.

The group was invited to Garden Island on March 27 and heard from commanding officer Captain Brian Delamont on how Rockingham businesses could capitalise on the navy’s presence in the region.

Organiser Sharyn McCaskey said the feedback was overwhelmingly positive and the Breakfast Club was honoured to be the first local business group to visit Garden Island.

“Captain Delamont and his associates made us so welcome — we felt very privileged to be able to attend such an event,” she said.

“He discussed with us how much the navy had changed from what it was like at his initial time of joining to how he runs the team on the base today.”
