A beach in Perth’s south has been closed to the public after a shark was spotted close to the shore, with lifeguard patrols ended.

Lifeguards closed Secret Harbour Beach on Palermo Cove after a two metre shark was sighted 200m offshore at 10.04am on Wednesday.

The breed of the shark is unknown, but it is believed to be travelling north.

Surf Life Saving WA have since concluded all patrols at the beach for Wednesday, with people advised to adhere to council signage on display.

Perth locals are asked to report any shark sightings to the Water Police on 9442 8600 or via the SharkSmart app.

More to come.
