Decapitated tiger shark found on Port Kennedy Beach with tail cut off
A decapitated tiger shark has been found bloodied and butchered on a beach south of Perth today.
The mauled shark — with no head or tail — was found along Port Kennedy beach earlier today with a witness suggesting it was not caught but instead dragged up to the shore and “butchered”.
“Not washed up, caught and dragged up. 4x4 tracks from the carcass...head and tail taken,” the witness said on a Facebook post to the WA Incident Alerts page.
The 2-3 metre sea creature also had pelvic damage with the witness suggesting the animal was de-pupped.
A spokesperson from the department of Fisheries said it is not illegal to fish for tiger sharks off the coast of WA, but size restrictions do apply in the West Coast and South Coast regions.
DPIRD Fisheries Officers are investigating the matter.
