Perth weather: Perfect weather for AFL grand final makes way for rain, hail as storm hits city
After turning on a perfect spring day for the AFL grand final, Perth’s weather took a darker turn this morning with hail and heavy showers sweeping across the city.
A cold front rolled across the western suburbs and the CBD between 7.30 and 9am, with up to 20mm of rainfall recorded.
Hail was reported in Bennett Springs and roads in Morley and Albany Highway in Maddington were affected by flooding.

“There’s still some shower activity currently on the radar,” Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Bob Tarr said. “There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day today — though there will be some breaks of sunshine as well.”
“Tomorrow is probably not going to be quite as unsettled as today, though there’s probably going to be a couple of showers around during the day.”
Mr Tarr said September had been drier than normal, but more rainfall was expected before the end of the week.
“We’ll have another cold front on Wednesday and then most likely another one coming through around Friday, so we should get some decent rain over the course of this week,” he said.
